A pre-budget seminar will be held on 20th to discuss the budget proposals presented by different chambers of commerce and industry and to finalise a combined budget proposal.
This was decided in a special meeting of FCCI Budget Arrangement Committee held with its President Engr Suhail Bin Rashid in the chair. It was also attended by former presidents Muzammal Sultan, Ayub Sabir, Shaheen Tabassum, Budget Committee Chairman Riazul Haq and Muhammad Asghar.
The seminar is expected to be attended by the finance minister, the Federal Board of Revenue chairman and federal minister for commerce among other policy makers. For the event, all the arrangements have been made.
The FCCI president said that invitations to the officials had already been sent. “We are vigorously pursuing these invitations to ensure their participation in this event. Earlier, various chambers presented their separate budget proposals to the Finance Ministry. Now, we have decided to formulate a combined budget proposal document. It would reflect the combined aspirations of the business community,” he said.
He added that it would become easy for the government and the Ministry of Finance to discuss and include viable proposals in the Federal Budget 2014-15. Regarding the pre-budget seminar, he said that it would be a big event and help bring policy makers in the public and private sectors together. He hoped that our maximum proposals would be included in the forthcoming federal budget. He also pointed out that PML-N had presented its first budget in haste last year and hence it had a number of irritants and anomalies. He hoped that the new budget would be discussed at length with the private sector to make it people and business friendly.
