Mepco raid squad bashed by pilferers; LS hopitalised

KHANEWAL - The members of a Mepco team were thrashed by influential power pilferers in village 169/!0R. A line superintendent was hospitalized in critical condition.
The line superintendent included in the team was seriously injured and admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital of Khanewal. However, Mepco, Pakistan Hydro Union activists held a protest over the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
The Mepco team headed by Subdivisional Officer Sanaullah, line superintendent Farrukh Naseer, lineman Manzoor, assistant lineman Imran and driver Shafqat raided a tube well of Hashmat Jahan Begum at a farm which is possessed by one Rana Ghulzar Ahamad. At the tube well, the farmers were stealing electricity by direct connection instead of through an electricity meter.  When the Mepco team started disconnecting the power supply, dozens of people including Ghulzar, Amjad Parvaiz, Nisar, Yasir and others started bashing them with iron rods, hunters and other weapons. They stripped off the line superintendent and injured him seriously.
Mepco, Pakistan Hydro Union, Divisional Chairman Khalid, zonal secretary Imran and Rana Muhammad Idress reached the hospital to enquire after the injured. They strongly condemned the incident and demanded a strict action against the offenders and their immediate arrest.
They also alleged the police in the FIR had not added appropriate clauses according to the actual incident of torture on govt employees and snatching of cash and valuables from them. The FIR of the incident has been registered with the Sadar Khanewal police station, according to SHO Imran Khursheed.  Sheikh Naseer Ahmad, father of the injured LS, alleged that XEN Mehmood Khan and SDO Sanaullah were not taking interest in the incident. He said that they were not pursuing the case and not willing to take a strict action against them.
