A 12-year-old child drowned in flooded Nullah Bhed in Sialkot city as widespread heavy rain lashed out Sialkot region followed by windstorm, inundating the city and its urban and rural low-lying areas.
Arsalan was standing there when he came in the fast flow of floodwater in the nullah which played havoc in parts of Sialkot city. Due to torrential rains, Bhed Nullah which passes through the congested residential and industrial areas also overflowed in Sialkot city, inundating the entire Sialkot city. The water also entered the houses, due to which the local people suffered great ordeal in draining out the rain and water from their houses on self help basis here.
Torrential rain also badly affected the electricity and communication systems due to which the supply of electricity remained suspended for several hours in urban and especially rural areas. It remained cloudy with the loud thunder. It paralyzed the normal life, besides, forcing the people to come out on the roads and in the streets to enjoy.
The Police Line presented a look of pond as the offices of DSP (Traffic) Sialkot, DSP (Patrolling) Sialkot, Police Uniforms god-owns and driving licensing branch became inundated due to the rain thereby damaging the officials records of these offices.
The heavy rain also badly exposed the negligence of Sialkot TMA due to which all the main city roads including Kutchery Road, Paris Road, Abbot Road, Jail Road, Railway Road, Mujahid Road, Commissioner Road, Allama Iqbal Chowk, Khadim Ali Road, Sialkot Airport Road and Hajipura Road and all the surrounding areas were inundated with the rainy and sewage water. Choked sewerage and drainage lines overflowed due to rain in Sialkot city.
DCO Iftikhar Ali Sahu visited the inundated areas along with the TMA officials. He expressed dismay and grave concern over the poor performance of Sialkot Tehsil Municipal Administration. The officials concerned have forecast more isolated and widespread heavy rains in the Sialkot region and in all the catchment areas of Occupied Jammu & Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
