PESHAWAR - A member of Sikh community was killed and two others sustained injuries when armed persons opened fire on them inside their market on Wednesday.
Police said the incident occurred in Khushhal Market in the jurisdiction of Hashtnagri police station when gunmen came to the market and opened fire at two shops owned by Sikh community in Hashtnagri. The firing resulted in the killing of one Jag Mohan Singh and serious injuries to Faram Singh and Man Meet Singh.
The injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital for medical treatment while the dead body of the deceased was shifted to the mortuary of Khyber Medical College.
While getting an FIR registered against unknown persons, the heirs of the deceased said they had no enmity with anyone. They said the members of Sikh community had some business in Khushhal Market and they had been targeted in two shops.
Following the incident, the Sikh community staged a protest demonstration, placing the dead body of the deceased on main GT Road, Peshawar. They also demonstrated in front of the Governor House on Sher Shah Suri Road and demanded arrest of the killers.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Parvez Khattak strongly condemned the tragic incident and ordered immediate arrest of the killers. He offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
PTI provincial president Azam Khan Swati, Secretary General Khalid Masood and Secretary Information Ayesha Gulalai severely condemned the killing of the businessman from the Sikh community.
In their statements, the PTI provincial leadership said the country’s enemies who wanted to destabilise the country were responsible for such heinous crimes. They said Chief Minister Parvez Khattak had directed the authorities concerned to arrest the killers.
The provincial leadership expressed deep grief and sorrow over the callous incident and offered their condolences to the family of the deceased.
