ISLAMABAD -The members of the National Assembly came across unexpected news on Monday when Minister for Water and Power Naveed Qamar told the house that there would be no electricity load-shedding across the country from today (Tuesday).The minister made the announcement during the question-hour, while responding to queries posed by legislators on the power crisis. He said they (treasury benches) were also elected members of the house and answerable to their constituents. Later, responding to a point of order raised by Usman Khan Advocate about the killings in Balochistan, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the government did not take any step after formation of a committee headed by MNA Changez Jamalito probe into the killing of Domki family members, because the Supreme Court had taken suo moto notice on the matter.Rehman further said 60 FC men had so far been killed in 30 days in Balochistan, on which PML-N legislator Naseer Bhutta said it was not fair to relate the killing of security personnel with the assassination of Domki family women, adding that the apex court took notice of the incident as the government did not make any progress in the case.But Rehman’s response was that there was no need to play politics on the issue.Responding to a call-attention notice about the 82 per cent increase in the government debt, which currently stood at Rs10.99trillion in violation of the fiscal responsibility and debt limitation Act 2005, State Minister for Production Khawaja Sheraz maintained that the shared figures were correct but no violation of act was carried out. To a question on deficit ratio, Khawaja Sheraz said the government had to achieve the target of lowering to 16 percent of GDP till the end of 2013.Meanwhile, the standoff between the PPP and the PML-N once again led to the deferment of the 20th Amendment Bill for the fourth consecutive sitting of the house.The treasury benches on Friday had also deferred the proposed bill aimed at giving legal cover to the members elected in the by-polls till Monday because of the Eid Miladun Nabi.To another call-attention notice regarding delay in the construction of residential projects initiated by the housing foundation in sector G-13, G-14 and BharaKaho, Islamabad resulting increase in the construction expenses, Minister for Housing Faisal Saleh Hayat said that federal government would try to accommodate on same the rates. Minister said that federal government was planning to construct houses for government employees at Kurri road that would be inaugurated in February.He further said that around 3000 government flats would also be constructed in G-14 area. Inquiry was conducted in some of the sectors and after finding irregularities cases were referred to NAB, he added. To a question about application against previous Minister for Housing and Works, Faisal Saleh Hayat said that he had never given application against predecessor.
