Gwadar-Kashgar economic corridor to benefit 3bn people: Nawaz Sharif

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif says, his official trip to China has proven more fruitful than he expected.
Speaking to the media in Guangzhou the PM added, that agreements have been signed for the construction of the motorway from Karachi to Lahore as well as the Khashgar-Gwadar project and that work on both will be expedited.
On the energy shortfall the prime minister said, that Chinese companies will invest in the energy sector in Pakistan, and that the shortage exists because previous governments did not address the issue.
Nawaz Sharif said his government will further strengthen friendship between Pakistan and China. He said his talks with the Chinese leadership remained highly beneficial and productive.
He said Gwadar-Kashgar economic corridor is an important milestone in the history of Pak-China friendship and we will ensure its completion as early as possible. He said this project will benefit three billion people in the region.
Nawaz Sharif said Karachi-Lahore motorway is another important project signed during his visit.
He said Chinese authorities are worried for the safety of their citizens in Pakistan and he has assured them that his government will provide foolproof security to them.
The Prime Minister stressed the need for working together to combat the menace of terrorism. He said the government‚ security agencies and the people will have to work collectively to curb terrorism effectively. He said killing of foreign tourists in Diamer has badly damaged the image of Pakistan. He said we have to improve the security and law and order to ensure peace in the country.
He said Pakistan is passing a difficult time and we need to take decisions accordingly. He said the government has laid down a policy to address the energy crisis. He said there is a need to bridge the gap between supply and demand of electricity as there is no way left to compete international economies.
The Prime Minister said the government will take important steps to make Gwadar a free port. He said laying a fast train route from Peshawar to Karachi is another significant project in this connection.
Nawaz Sharif said a special cell will be established to monitor the matters pertaining to Chinese projects and investment in Pakistan. He said a task force headed by Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal will also be established to boost economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.
