HYDERABAD- Unknown armed men gunned down three cops and injured a passerby during the night falling between Sunday and Monday. The funeral prayers of the three police officers Ishtiaq, Rashid and Maqsood were offered at Police Headquarters in Hyderabad today.
Deputy Inspector General Sanaullah Abbasi, SSP Pir Farid Jan Sarhandi, police officers and families of the deceased cops were present in the funeral prayers.
SSP Farid Jan Sarhandi, while speaking to journalists after the prayers, said that 12 cops have been targeted in Hyderabad since the past six months by outlawed groups and local gangs. "The investigation of the incident is underway and the culprits will be arrested soon," Sarhandi added.
According to details, the firing by the gunmen led to the injury to four cops and a passerby. They were rushed to Civil Hospital where three injured police personnel succumbed to their wounds.
The heirs of the deceased held protest demonstration outside the hospital against the incident and also stopped media from coverage.
Speaking to media persons DIG Sanaullah said that the firing on police mobile van could be backlash of ongoing military operation against militants in North Waziristan Agency (NWA). He said that only police is not responsible to stop terrorism and all sections of society would have to play their role in this
regard.
Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has also expressed his sympathies with the bereaved family and vowed to bring the culprits to book. He has also sought report of the incident from DIG Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) Rabita Committee has also condemned the firing on policemen and demanded to arrest the culprits involved in the firing.
