150pc raise in salaries of KP lawmakers

PESHAWAR - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a bill to make 150 per cent increase in the salaries and allowances of the cabinet members, MPAs and advisors.
The bill was moved by Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Parliamentary Secretary Arif Yousaf, which was approved by other members of the assembly unanimously. On this occasion, Qaumi Watan Party MPA Aneesa Zeb showed disagreement with the bill and staged walkout of the assembly session when she was not allowed to speak on the point of order.
After approval of the bill, 150 per cent increase was made in the salaries, allowances and other privileges of the members. According to this increase, Rs8,000 hike has been made in basic salaries while Rs35,000 to Rs50,000 increase has been made in other incentives of lawmakers.
Similarly, increase up to Rs40,000 has been made in the salaries of provincial ministers which will be around Rs200,000 as compared to the previous salary of  Rs1,20,0000.
Likewise, the salary of deputy speaker was raised from Rs31,500 to 81,500. Besides salaries, remarkable increase has been made in the incentives of speakers and ministers. As per the official figure, the increase in the house rent was Rs30,000 while incentive for attending the meeting of standing committees is Rs640 per day.
Similarly, Rs9,000 has been made in the medical allowances while increase in additional travelling allowances has been made upto Rs1,50,000 for deputy speaker while for speaker additional travel allowance would be Rs2,00,000 and medical allowances increase would be Rs15,000.
This bill soon after the passage from assembly floor would be implemented in litter and spirit.
It was the second time that increase in the salaries of the ministers and MPs has been made in the last two years as earlier to this, the ANP government has also made considerable increase in the salaries and incentives of the members.
