Altaf addressed party after released, requests to end protest

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has been released on bail, four days after his arrest in London on money laundering charges.

The MQM chief immediately addressed his party members, who were in a sit-in protest against their leader’s arrest in Karachi via telephone. He applauded his party members for their commitment, requested them to remain patient and not beg for his release.

He thanked the Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and admitted that the PM played a positive role in the case. He also thanked the former President Asif Ali Zardari, Chaudhry Shujaat, Tahirul Qadri and Pervez Musharraf for their support. He also expressed his gratitude to traders, transporters, artists and scholars for supporting the party and requested them to end the protest now.

Hussain added that he respects the British law and judicial system, and is ready to go to jail again.

Hussain was arrested and interrogated for nine hours in London four days ago. He was later shifted to the Wellington Hospital and underwent an angiography. The London police have yet to frame any charges. Hussain is out on a personal bail on the condition that he will appear before the police again if required. He was greeted by his part members outside the police station and reached the party’s international secretariat to address his followers.
