G-B PPP to protest withdrawal of wheat subsidy

GILGIT - Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Saturday announced to launch a protest movement against the federal government’s decision to withdraw subsidy on wheat for the Gilgit-Baltistan.
Addressing a press conference in Gilgit Press Club, Provisional Coordinator Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Justice (Retd) Sayed Jafar Shah said that the federal government withdrew subsidy on wheat and salt, which had been approved by PPP founder late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto for the people of this area in 1977. “The PPP is the voice of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and it is committed to provide basic amenities of life to masses at their doorsteps. He urged the federal government to withdraw the decision forthwith otherwise protest would be launched against it. He alleged the ruling party violated election rules as federal ministers were conducting election campaign for PML-N candidates in the area.
However, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) rejected the claim of withdrawal of wheat subsidy, saying no such decision was taken by the federal government. Addressing a press conference in Gilgit Press Club, Senator Nihal Hashmi and Provincial President PML-N Hafiz Hafizur Rehman denied that the federal government has withdrawn subsidy on wheat.
