ECP powers deputed to Chief Election Commissioner

ISLAMABAD: According to 22nd amendment, all powers and authorities held by election commission members have been dismissed and transferred to chief election commissioner as a sole decision maker.

The government in this regard made amendments in article 213 and 222 of the constitution for the appointment of election commission members and chief election commissioner.

The government without any consultation replaced the word ’election commission duties’ to ’election commissioner’s duties’ in article 219 of the constitution.

According to the amendment, national and provincial assemblies, commencement of provincial and Senate elections, voters list, and tribunal’s appointment were the responsibilities that chief election commissioner would be assigned

Before the amendment they very duties were assigned to a committee consisting members from election commission and chief election commissioner’s office
