KHYBER AGENCY - The political administration seized a huge cache of arms from alleged militants in Zayarai area of tehsil Landi Kotal, sub-division of Khyber Agency, however the alleged militants succeeded to escape from the scene, official sources informed.
Sources said that last morning unknown militants were trying to shift a bulk of arms and ammunitions from the Upper Tirah area to Landi Kotal tehsil through Zayarai route. When the administration got information, it adopted extraordinary security measures in the area and blocked roads. However, the sources said, a suspected pick up bearing registration No B-8512 ran away. They added that the on duty Khasadar personnel started chasing it.
They said one of Khasadar personnel vehicles overturned and the officials got minor injuries. The sources said the alleged militants escaped during the chase and left behind 5260 AK-47 cartridges, 2,520 rounds of M-16, 1000 9MM rounds, 1000 pistol rounds, 167 magazines and seven long range gun bates, etc, sources said.
The pick up was impounded and was shifted to Landi Kotal administration office along with the seized arms, sources said. Khasadar and Levies forces have launched search operation in the area to trace the accused, the officials said.
Meanwhile, a Khasadar personnel got wounded when his own AK-47 gun unintentionally went off here in Torkham on Sunday, official sources said. In the accidental firing the Khasadar, Abdul Khaliq received bullet injuries and was shifted to Peshawar hospital due to precarious condition, sources said. In another development the forces foiled a bid of narcotics smuggling by seized six-kg heroin from a car here on Bagyari check post of tehsil Jamrud, official sources informed. The narcotics items recovered from a non-custom paid vehicle were hidden in different cavities of it, sources said.
However the unidentified smugglers successfully escaped, sources said.
