Protests have erupted in Malir area of Karachi where a mob has gathered to protest against the arrest of prominent Shia cleric Mirza Yusuf Hussain and a leader of Ahl-e-Sunnat Wal Jamat Taj Hanafi. The two were arrested on allegations of targeted sectarian killings that killed 13 in a week.
Demonstrations demanding release of the arrested are underway with the demonstrators saying that they will not leave until the religious workers are released.
As the protest gained momentum the police used tear gas but have remained unsuccessful in their attempts to disperse the crowd as of yet.
