PAEC share in defence valuable: Wynne

ISLAMABAD - We value the contribution of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) in defence, energy, human resource development and other socio-economic sectors, stated Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Khalid Shameem Wynne, while addressing the 2011 Convocation of Pakistan Institute of Engineering & Applied Sciences (PIEAS) here Thursday. General Wynne complimented PIEAS for providing human resources for various programmes of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and other strategic commissions. He said, It is through the high-level education in science and technology that we may seek economic prosperity and national security for our country. Without science and technology, no nation can survive with dignity. We congratulate all those associated with PIEAS for making the top ranking engineering institution of the country. General Wynne appreciated the efforts made by pioneers of PAEC for their vision in establishing this Institute about four decades ago and providing a conducive atmospherics for dissemination of knowledge in the fields of nuclear science and technology. He congratulated all the successful degree holders and highly qualified faculty of PIEAS on the occasion. A total of 21 Ph.D. degrees, 226 M Phil/MS degrees in disciplines of nuclear engineering, systems engineering, nuclear medicine, medical physics, materials engineering and process engineering, and 41 BS degrees in computer and information sciences were awarded. Earlier in his welcome address, Chairman PAEC, Dr Ansar Parvez, highlighted the contributions made by PAEC in the field of science and technology. He also elaborated the undertakings of PAEC in the socio-economic sectors of the country.
