Discrimination in laptops’ distribution highlighted

SIALKOT - Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has accused the Punjab government of discrimination in distribution of laptops among the students, saying that the Punjab government distributed laptops in urban areas by ignoring totally the rural areas’ students, who are still compelled to get education while sitting on the tats (ground). She said that the standard of education in government schools, especially in far-off parts of Punjab was getting worst with every passing day while the Punjab government was only busy in beating the drums of hollow claims. Federal Information Minister Dr Firous Ashiq Awan stated this while addressing the participants of annual prize distribution ceremony of a private school at village Bhoth near Sialkot here on Saturday.She stressed the need for providing equal education opportunities to all the students belonging to the both urban and rural parts of the Punjab. She said that the PPP government was striving to end the darkness of ignorance by spreading the light of knowledge and education in accordance with the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benzair Bhutto, adding that the government would encourage public-private partnership for the development and promotion of ducation.The Federal Information Minister accused of the Punjab government of creating hurdles in the establishment of “Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Degree College for Women” at her native village Koobay Chak-Bajwat. She said that the federal government was intended to establish the college with the funds released by the Prime Minister to make available quality higher education to local girl students at their threshold. The PML-N government in Punjab has been impeding and creating hurdles in the way of early start of construction of the project, she claimed. She alleged that the Punjab government was not issuing No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the project for “she called” political mileage. She alleged that the Punjab government had politicized the project as tenders of the project had also been cancelled by the provincial government. Dr Firdous also urged the politicians to end the game of “political point scoring “ in the social development and public welfare oriented projects, especially in education and health sectors.She urged the teachers and parents to focus on the character-building of the students and stressed upon the need of bringing change in social attitude towards the promotion of quality education for all. Dr Firdous also underlined collective efforts for the promotion of education to enhance the literacy rate. She said that there was an immediate need to root out illiteracy at grassroots level to bring about radical changes in every sphere of life. She called for changing the education system and removing disparities to ensure even opportunities to all in the country. Later, she distributed prizes among brilliants students and teachers for their outstanding performance.
