SBP official among three shot dead

KARACHI - Two political workers and an official of the State Bank of Pakistan were gunned down, while two more bodies, including that of a woman, were recovered in the metropolis on Tuesday.
In an early morning attack in Landhi area, an activist of the Sunni Tehreek was killed and a member of its Ullema committee was fatally wounded. The victim was identified as Adnan Qadri and the injured as Prof Allama Mohammad Saleem Abbas Naqshbandi, who leads prayers at Jamia Masjid Haqqani.
According to police officials, they were targeted by a bike-borne armed duo near their residences in Landhi No 4.
Allama Saleem Abbas Naqshbandi is under treatment at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Separately, a thirty-one-year-old man, namely Mohammad Ali, son of Shaukat Ali, was shot and killed by two unidentified gunmen, riding a motorbike, near his residence in Lines Area within the jurisdiction of the Brigade Police Station. Police officials said he was killed over a political rivalry, as he was associated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s unit-53.
In another drive-by shooting, an official of the State Bank of Pakistan was killed on Jinnah Road within the remit of the Sher Shah Police Station. Identified as 56-year-old Khadim, son of Saifur Rehman, the victim was attacked by two unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle, when left for his workplace from home.
 He received critical gunshot wounds and was ferried to a nearby hospital, where he breathed his last. Later, the body was moved to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities. Police officials suspected that he might have been killed over personal enmity.
Meanwhile, body of a man was recovered from Taiser Town within the precincts of the Surjani Town Police Station. According to law enforcers, unidentified culprits disposed of his body in the bushes after taking him captive and killing him afterwards.
He was shot in the temple and his body also bore marks of torture. The body was moved to the Edhi Morgue, Sohrab Goth, for identification after autopsy at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Another body that of a woman was found within the jurisdiction of the Sacchal Police Station. The victim could not be identified until the filing of this report. Police officials said that apparently, the woman was strangled. Further investigation is in progress.
