Legendary singers perform at PNCA today

ISLAMABAD (APP) Ustad Fateh Ali Khan and Rustam Ali Khan from Patiala Gharana will perform at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) here on Tuesday. The musical evening is being organized under PNCAs programme 'Tribute to Living Legends to pay tributes to the renowned singers for their achievements in classical music. The PNCA in its various programmes has focused on traditional music by inviting popular artists to perform, thus highlighting their services and preserving musical heritage of the country, an official of PNCA said. The traditional schools of music (Gharanas) introduced many styles of musical expressions in the history of sub-continent like classical, Qawwali, Ghazals and folk music. The PNCA has also displayed the history of various Pakistani musical 'Gharanas at its Musical Archives to document and preserve the musical heritage. Music is a part of everyones life in different forms while in Pakistan, it is a fusion of many influences that shaped the music with traditions of many parts of the world like Central Asia, Persia, Turkish and Arabic. Classic music has now become limited in the country as it is played on gatherings and festivals, the official said, adding Such programmes are an attempt to introduce the new generations with this dying form of music which is a very elaborate, which has been developed over the centuries by individuals as a solitary way of life. Federal Minister for Culture Pir Aftab Hussain Shah Jilani will be the chief guest on the occasion.
