RAWALPINDI: The library of Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) organised a two days annual book fair within the university premises on Tuesday.
As many as 13 registered book vendors have participated in the fair and exhibited their books. All books and stalls were arranged according to the requirement and needs of the students and faculty members. The book fair was inaugurated by acting Vice Chancellor (VC) FJWU Prof Dr Naheed Zia Khan. A large number of other faculty members and students were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the acting VC said that book fair was very important and highly remarkable intellectual activity specifically for the promotion of higher education. "It is a regular feature of FJWU and very well organised activity. We are obliged to the vendors who participated in book fair and provide exposure to our students and faculty members who may not have enough inspiration to go to book shops," she said.–Staff Reporter
Dr Naheed urged the students to promote the culture of book reading adding that all educational institutes must arrange book fairs. She added that it was encouraging to see that students purchased the books and faculty also recommended the books in their own discipline.
She said "Exhibitions of books are a highly cost effective way for selection and purchasing reading stuff for self and improving collection building of any library. This leads more contacts and acquire good reading stuff during the event than we might otherwise achieve in months".
A large number of students visited the book fair and purchased the book of their choice to gain knowledge.
