Malala’s memoir a bestseller at Muscat International Book Fair

Muscat- The memoir of Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani school girl who was shot by the Taliban for seeking education, is a bestseller at the Muscat International Book Fair, said the stall owners.

"The memoir, penned by Malala and veteran British journalist Christina Lamb, is one of the best selling English books in the fair. We had more than 250 copies in stock but they are all sold out now. As more enquires are coming, we have ordered more," said Shoukath Ali, general manager of Al Bhaj Trading, one of the leading book traders in Oman.

The Taliban shot Malala in 2012 for creating awareness of education among women and highlighting the atrocities committed by the militant group, especially in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. She was taken to the UK for treatment and now lives there with her family.

"The majority of the buyers are Omani youngsters, especially girls from the colleges. Expatriates are also interested in the book. We didn't anticipate such a large sale for this book. If we had, we would have stocked more," said Ali, who has been selling books in Oman for over 20 years.

The book was released in October 2013 and offers an account of Malala's childhood, from her birth in 1997 to the beginning of her "second life" in Birmingham, England.
