Corps Commander Multan Lt-Gen Ashfaq Nadeem Ahmad has said that the way the nation celebrated 50th Defence Day is reflective of achievements made by the Pakistan Army in ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb.
He observed this while addressing the participants of concluding session of two-day Defence Day celebrations organised by Multan Corps here at Yadgar-e-Shuhada (martyrs monument) the other night. The Corps Commander added that Indian provocations in border areas were also a big proof of success of operation Zarb-e-Azb. He pointed out that the country is faced with multiple internal and external threats but the armed forces stand in their way along with other law enforcing agencies including police and civil armed forces like an iron wall. He said that the celebrations of Defence Day were made possible by the operation and it would be accomplished very soon.
The Corps Commander said that the armed forces had an eye on all internal and external challenges to national security and they possessed capability to cope with any situation. He declared that the Pakistan Army would continue to play its role for the progress, prosperity and security of the country. The Corps Commander paid glowing tributes to the martyrs and said that those who embraced martyrdom defeated all their fellows.
The families and relatives of the martyrs from Multan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh and other adjoining areas participated in the function. The Corps Commander laid a floral wreath on the monument while a contingent presented guard of honour.
Meanwhile, the two-day exhibition of arms organized by the Multan Corps here at Ayub Stadium in connection with Defence Day also concluded. Latest arms including gunship helicopters, tanks, radar systems, machineguns and many other items were put on display. Thousands of citizens visited Ayub Stadium with national revour on both days. The visitors especially children expressed deep interest in all the arms displayed at the Stadium. Military band played national anthem and war songs and enthralled the visitors. The Corps Commander also visited the exhibition.
cattle markets restored: The district administration has issued a notification for restoration of makeshift cattle markets in view of Eidul Azha while all towns have been directed to launch a grand operation against those selling sacrificial animals on roadsides.
The district coordination officer (DCO) Zahid Saleem Gondal imposed Section 144 on sale of animals at other than specified spots directed the concerned officials to take stern action against those found violating 144. He said that the solid waste management company would make special sanitation arrangements on eve of Eidul Azha. He warned that the concerned TMO would have to face action if animals were seen on roads in his area.
Meanwhile, addressing a meeting of district officers and town officials on Monday, the DCO disclosed that special kits were being brought from Lahore to examine substandard edibles at the spot. He said that the kits would enable task force to take quick action against outlaws involved in trading of adulterated edibles. He disclosed that huge quantity of poisonous meat and adulterated milk were spoiled during the operation.
The DCO disclosed that the intelligence agencies were preparing the list of illegal slaughter houses and factories manufacturing counterfeit items.
"As soon as the list is made, a grand operation will be launched in the district," he added. He directed the Shah Rukan-e-Alam and Moosa Pak Towns to purchase mobile labs.
He declared that mega projects like sports complex and water supply were being launched in Shujabad and Jalalpur Pirwala towns, adding that the tenders had been released for the water supply project.
