Blast in Rawalpindi; 23 dead over 40 injured

RAWALPINDI - A massive blast near Rawalpindi’s Sabzi Mandi in Peer Wadhai has left at least 23 dead and over 40 people injured. According to sources the origin of the explosion was a fruit carton, which had been planted near the fruit market. Around five kilograms' worth of explosive material was stuffed inside the fruit carton, according to reports.  

A person has also been arrested under suspicion of being involved in the blast, sourced told The Nation

The security team and the police reached the spot, taking the injured way to the nearest hospitals, where emergency was declared. Analysts and the security officials have dubbed it yet another act of terrorism amidst increasing violence in the country.

President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, President Mamnoon Hussain and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan have condemned the incident and have sought a report regarding the blast.
