Human rights activist shot dead

KHYBER AGENCY - A human rights activist was gunned down by some unidentified persons here in Shangair area of tehsil Jamrud on Thursday. Tehsildar Jamrud Shakeel Umerzai confirmed the incident saying that Zarteef Afridi, coordinator Khyber Agency for Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), was on his way to school to perform his official duty, when some unidentified armed persons opened fire on him. He said he was killed on the spot, adding that the accused managed to escape from the scene. Sources said receiving information, the local administration officials rushed to the spot and took the dead body into custody. They shifted it to hospital for medico-legal formalities. They said the motive behind the killing could not be ascertained, however the administration lodged a case against unidentified persons and started investigation.
