MULTAN -  Black sheep and corrupt elements will be kicked out of the Zakat Department and the culture of transparency will be introduced, Punjab Zakat and Ushr Minister Naghma Mushtaq Langah declared.

Addressing a public gathering in Jalalpur Pirwala on Thursday, she said that the affairs of the Zakat Department would be run in a very transparent manner from now on and the poor people would be ensured their right. She said that the funds allocated under Jahez Fund, Guzara Allowance, Sewing Machines and other heads would be given to the deserving citizens. She said that she would discharge her responsibilities as a minister in a very transparent way and serve the people of Multan.

She declared to hold an open court in her constituency fortnightly to resolve people’s problems at the spot. She said that Jalalpur would be turned into a model tehsil, adding that the people could approach her anytime as her doors were open round the clock.

She said that the solution to sewerage problems of Jalalpur stood at the top of her priority.

“We have received funds and work on sewerage projects will be launched very soon,” she added. She said that steps were taken on emergency grounds to launch sewerage projects in Jalalpur City and Lodhran Road areas.

She said that the PML-N believed in serving the public and all the projects launched across the province had also been initiated under the same vision. She claimed that the South Punjab was given the highest funds in the history in a bid to get the residents of this area rid of feeling of deprivation. She said that the PML-N government introduced the policy of making all the areas of the country equally developed.

She said that the restoration of peace in the country was a big achievement of the government as the terrorism menace was uprooted.

She claimed the provincial government did all things on merit and necessary steps were being taken to pay Zakat to the truly deserving people. 

30 POWER PILFERERS CAUGHT

The monitoring and surveillance team of the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) caught 32 power pilferers red handed from across the region during the month of November and imposed fine worth over Rs800,000 on them.

The team was led by the Manager M&S Engr. Iqbal Ahmad Sheikh and it conducted raids in different sub divisions of the region. The team also recovered Rs361,000 from the power thieves and deposited to the national exchequer.
