PESHAWAR - Senior lawyer Peshawar High Court Malak Jarar advocate was gunned down by unknown armed persons in Gulbahar area while another lawyer was tortured by Gulbarg police in a separate incident.
Police said the incident occurred on Gulbahar Road when Malak Jarar advocate was on his way to home after dropping his children, adding that some unknown bike rider opened fire on him, leaving him injured. He was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar, however he succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital.
Soon after the incident, Gulbahar police rushed to the site and started search operation but the attackers managed to flee the area after the incident. The lawyer belonged to Shia school of thought and was a resident of Gunj inside the walled city of Peshawar, but he was residing in Asad Anwar Colony in Gulbahar.
Members of the Shia community lashed out at the provincial government and police for their failure to provide security. Police have registered an FIR against unknown criminals.
The Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) announced a two-day boycott of court proceedings against the killing of the lawyer and against the alleged mistreatment of another colleague at the hands of Peshawar's Gulberg police station personnel on Thursday.
Meanwhile another lawyer Furqan advocate son of SP NAB Inayatullah was seriously injured as a result of police torture in Gulbarg police station.
