RAWALPINDI - A 50-year-old Imam of Qasar-e-Sajjad Imambargah was critically injured in a firing related incident here at Dhoke Kashmirian on Wednesday morning.
Police and Rescue 1122 shifted the injured Imam, who was later identified as Nazir Hussain Imrani, to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) for medical treatment.  A case was also registered with PS Sadiqabad. Police failed to appoint an investigation officer to initiate probe into the tragic incident which earned ire from Shiite community.
According to sources, Nazir Hussain Imrani was returning to home on his motorcycle after dropping his daughter at Dhoke Kashmirian Girls College when two unknown attackers riding on another motorcycle opened indiscriminate firing at him and fled. As a result, Nazir sustained multiple bullet injuries and was shifted to BBH. The injured was told be a government teacher. Police and doctors said that Imam sustained two bullet injuries and his condition was out of danger.
A first information report (FIR) was filed against unidentified attackers on the application of the caretaker Imambargah Qasar-e-Sajjad.
Meanwhile, Sadiqabad police could not appoint an investigation officer (IO) to probe into the matter till filing of this report.
A Moharer of police station who not willing to tell his name, when contacted by this scribe and asked about the IO, told that Inspector Khalid Satti was appointed as IO in the case.
Khalid Satti, however, when contacted, was shocked after listening about the firing incident and said that he was out of the city in connection with another case and did not know about the attack on Imam of Imambargah. He asked this scribe to contact SHO Sadiqabad to get details. The SHO did not attend his phone despite several attempts.
On the other hand, Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Fiqa-e-Jafriya (TNFJ) vehemently condemned the brutal attack on the Imam and demanded of City Police Officer (CPO) Umer Akhter Lalayka to arrest the culprits immediately.
