Islamabad - At least 6 persons were killed and some 12 others got seriously injured in a head-on collision between two passenger vans on Fatehjang Road near Tarnol area of Islamabad on Wednesday.
The death toll is expected to rise as the condition of some injured persons has been termed critical.
The accident occurred as two passenger vans collided from opposite directions. The coaster bearing registration number LOK-9388 rammed into a Toyota Hiace van (JE-9709) coming from the opposite direction in the limits of Tarnol police station, as the driver of the coaster attempted to take over a vehicle.
The accident resulted in the death of 6 persons on the spot. The accident occurred in the suburbs of Islamabad, a few kilometers away from the new airport of Islamabad.
Rescue teams were called on the spot. Meanwhile, volunteers and passersby shifted the injured and dead to District Headquarters Hospital Rawalpindi and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Islamabad.
A police contingent immediately reached the spot and started investigation to ascertain the circumstances of the accident. According to the Islamabad traffic police, the injured include Rohan Khan (55), Kifaitullah (15), Javed Toyota drive, coaster driver Nabeel and two unknown persons while 12 persons including Akhtar Bibi (35), Abid (21), Mir Nawaz (36), Fahim (31), Muhammad Zubair (36), Zubair Ahmed (45), Ibrar (17) and Farooq (25) got injured. Three dead and 11 injured persons including 3 women and one child were brought to PIMS whose situation is stated to be stable.
Meanwhile, the doctors at District Headquarters Hospital on Wednesday received three dead bodies and two injured of the traffic accident.
According to sources, the doctors at DHQ Hospital received three dead bodies and two injured people of Fateh Jang Road traffic accident. The dead bodies and injured were brought in the hospital by Rescue 1122. The dead persons were identified as Rohan Khan and Kifayat while the identity of third deceased could not be ascertained. The injured included Noor Ullah and Noshad Ullah.
