CJ takes suo moto notice

ISLAMABAD Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took suo moto notice on an application of Muhammad Ashraf Khan, resident of Railway Officers Colony Lahore, stating therein that NAB authorities had arrested his brother and tortured him in the illegally custody. The applicant beseeched CJ for the recovery of his brother and appealed to provide him justice. Taking the notice, Chief Justice directed the Chairmen NAB to submit his reply within one week in that regard. Meanwhile, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry took another suo moto notice on an application of Meat Merchants Welfare Association, who had claimed that the meat and animals were being smuggled unlawfully to Iran and Afghanistan, which had caused rise in the price of meat along with creating shortage of meat supply in the market. They further requested the CJ to impose ban on the export of animals to cater the needs of the public at large. In this connection, the Chief Justice directed the Chief Secretaries of NWFP and Balochistan to clear their positions within 15 days.
