India's steps to reflect its sincerity: Pakistan

PAKISTAN has said Indias sincerity in resolving the core issue of Kashmir will be judged from its steps in eliminating the black laws in the occupied territory. Talking to BBC on Tuesday, Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit said the Hurriyat leadership of Kashmir had already made it clear that practical measures by New Delhi to withdraw black laws such Armed Forces Special Act and Public Safety Act would reflect its sincerity in resolving the Kashmir dispute. Besides this, troops pullout from the Indian-occupied Kashmir would also play a pivotal role in this regard, he added. Basic question arose whether there had been some practical change in Indias stance, he said. The spokesman further stated that Kashmiris, through their freedom struggle, had made it clear that they wanted right to self-determination. So, it is a basic question whether India is serious in settling the Kashmir issue or is just pretending a change through visits by its political leadership to Srinagar, he added. Indian Prime Manm-ohan Singh had already stated that trust deficit was the major hurdle in resuming dialogue process with Islamabad. Basit acknowledged that trust deficit had existed on both sides since the creation of Pakistan and birth of the Kashmir issue. If they (New Delhi) talk about terrorism, which is also Pakistans major problem, mutual cooperation between both neighbouring nations was a must to tackle this menace.
