SIALKOT – A proclaimed offender namely Ghulam Fareed alias Fareeda was killed in a shootout with the police in a bid to escape from police custody.
He had opened fire on the police after snatching a gun from policemen along the bank of Upper Chenab Canal near Head Marala here the other night.
The police was bringing him to Sialkot city from Head Marala Police Station. Meanwhile, he snatched a gun from a policeman and started firing on police and tried to flee by firing on police on the way. As, the police retaliated, the accused was killed on the spot. The police told the newsmen that the accused belonged to Renala Khurd (Okara district) and he was the ringleader of an inter-province gang of car lifters. He was involved as many as 24 cases of car snatching and murder during dacoity.
PO ARRESTED: The Sialkot Police have claimed to arrest a notorious Proclaimed Offender (PO) Chan Pir, who was bearing a head money of Rs1 million.
DPO Afzaal Ahmad Kausar said that the accused had become a sign of terror in the region and his early arrest was a challenge for the police.
He was wanted by police in as many as 24 cases of murder, kidnapping for ransom, dacoity and robbery.
The police arrested from a hideout in outskirts of the Sialkot, the DPO added. He announced cash prizes and appreciation certificates for the raiding police party.
