Call for more hospitals in South Punjab

MULTAN - Board of Management Nishtar Medical Institute (NMI) Chairman Khawaja Jalaluddin Romi said on Friday the government should build more public hospitals for the people of South Punjab.
“The Nishtar Hospital is the sole big public facility for people of South Punjab which welcomes patients from far and wide,” said Romi while addressing a press briefing at committee room of the NMI here.
Accompanied by NMI Principal Dr Samee Akhtar, MS Dr Javaid Umer, Dr Ejaz Malik and Dr Zafar, added that the total bed capacity of NMI was 1,100 while 1,500 to 1,700 patients visited the facility on daily basis. He said that the Punjab govt had agreed in principal to extend the number of beds to 1,700. Dr Samee Akhtar said that they would make functional a latest lab within a month with ‘don’t touch technique’. The machine, he claimed, would yield better and accurate results. He said that they were establishing Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) soon to facilitate doctors for higher education. About Nishtar Academic Complex, the NMI principal said that it would be made in Nishtar state no 1 with 4 lecture theatres, two conference halls and two examination halls with capacity for 500 students.
Dr Samee Akhtar said that the lift at the accident and emergency (A&E) unit would be operational by March 20.
