JI demands halt to Bara military operation

PESHAWAR - Opposing the military operation in Bara, Khyber Agency, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), agency chapter, strongly condemned the ultimatum given to Shalobar tribe for vacating their houses.
“The dislocating of the helpless and innocent tribal people from their respective areas is condemnable,” JI, Khyber leader Shah Faisal Afridi said while addressing a news conference here at press club on Tuesday. He said that the incumbent rulers in spite of giving any relief to the militancy-hit tribesmen further disturbed their lives.
Flanked by JI, tehsil Bara, Afridi said that it was regrettable that the government had given an ultimatum of 24 hours to Shalobar, branch of Afridi tribe, to vacate their houses. He added that on the one hand the tribesmen were looted by the law enforcers especially police officials at the entrance routes of Peshawar, while on the other hand the administration stiffened their lives. He alleged that police officials were openly taking Rs 2000 to Rs 5000 on different excuses and on refusal many innocent people were detained for several days without fulfilling legal requirements.
Afridi further said that the people of the area were already confronting numerous difficulties including safe drinking water, edibles, and other commodities items.
But now after the military offensive, fear is being spread across the area due to which there is shortage of transportation for locals to shift their luggage to safer places.
He also strongly criticised the elected representatives from the area including Hameedullah Jan Afridi for turning his ears deaf towards the miseries confronting the people, and followed criminal silence over the ongoing illogical military operation. The representatives after election has not come to his constituency and enjoying luxurious life in Islamabad, he blamed.
He also came hard on the ANP and PPP led governments for not taking any interest in the resolution of the ongoing quagmire in the agency, and urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor Masood Kauser to resolve all the issues following the way of negotiation and dialogue.
