ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has said that the completion of Kachhi Canal, Rainee Canal, RBOD-1 and RBOD-III would be instrumental in controlling floods as well as bringing more areas of land under cultivation.
The Prime Minister was talking to Syed Raghib Abbas Shah, Chairman WAPDA who called on him at Prime Minister’s House. Chairman WAPDA apprised the Prime Minister about the progress on various hydro-power projects of WAPDA with cumulative capacity of about 1500 mw. Raja said that the completion of hydro-power projects is critical to both controlling of floods and mitigate water and power shortfall in the country.
He said that the government is prioritising water storage projects as they are essential for overall progress and prosperity of the country to ensure adequate provision of water to meet the ever growing requirements of the country. He directed Chairman WAPDA to prioritise work on small and medium sized dams in the country.
Raja also asked him to work on war-footing to repair the breaches in the canal networks affected by recent floods in Sindh and Balochistan, so that the infrastructure could be restored.
