Multan prisoner now goes on hunger strike

MULTAN - A prisoner, who yesterday climbed up 150-feet high water tank in district jail and demanded the jail authorities to arrange a meeting with his girlfriend, has now gone on hunger strike, the prison sources said.
According to media reports, Ghulam Muhammad, who was admitted to Multan district jail hospital on Friday evening after being rescued from atop a jail water tank, has refused to eat anything since then.
Sources said that the prisoner now fears that he would subjected to torture by police while other prisoners in the jail have threatened to join him in hunger strike.
However, a jail official Anjum Shah said that the prisoner is in state of shock due to which he has been kept in the hospital. Shah denied that Muhammad was on hunger strike and termed it as a rumour. On Friday, the inmate mounted on the top of the water tank and demanded the authorities to arrange a meeting with her girlfriend.
The girlfriend of the prisoner was brought to district jail for bringing him down safely, however, the prisoner, Ghulam Muhammad, didn’t pay heed even to the appeal of his lover. However, the rescue workers managed to bring him down safely. Naj Baha, lover of Ghulam Muhammad, is in woman prison in Multan. Both the prisoners and his lover have been convicted of murder.
