Govt making efforts to enhance agriculture exports to Russia

Islamabad: The Senate was told today that the government is making all out efforts, to enhance exports of Pakistani agricultural products to the Russian Federation.

Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir Khan told the House during question hour that focused efforts is being made, to enhance exports of agriculture products including fruits and vegetables to the Russian Federation.

He said recently a thirty-member delegation of food items exporters visited Russian Federation and participated in "World Food Moscow" festival. Pakistani products were introduced in the Russian market and the Russian Federation has shown interest in import of agri-products, including rice from Pakistan.

He pointed out that major export items to Russia are cotton fabrics, fruit preparations, synthetic fabrics, sports goods, hosiery and textile material.

Responding to a question, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed informed the house that twenty six million unverified mobile phone SIMs have been blocked, during the verification process.

He said the government has taken a number of steps to improve performance of Pakistan International Airlines. The government has injected sixteen billion rupees as cash support and fifty two million dollars, for acquiring fifteen aircraft on dry lease.

He pointed out that loss making routes both international and domestic have been suspended and aircrafts are deployed on profitable routes.
