ISLAMABAD: India will be pressurised to abandon its defiance and enter dialogue with Pakistan, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and army chief Raheel Sharif claimed today.
Sharif will meet President Barrack Obama in Washington on October 22 to discuss regional strains and tension between Pakistan and India.
Government sources said the Prime Minister will raise India’s support for insurgents and militants in Balochistan and the tribal belt.
US National Security Council said the meeting would “advance our mutual interests and address areas of concern, particularly terrorist and militant attacks emanating from Pakistani soil.”
A government official told The Nation the Prime Minister and the army chief discussed India’s interference in Pakistan and its resistance to new talks at a meeting here today.
“The two agreed India should be exposed at the international level. The PM will also defend Indian allegations against Pakistan,” he added.
The official said the premier hopes to convince Obama that Pakistan is a victim of terrorism and was fighting to eliminate the menace.
The meeting came a day after General Raheel Sharif chaired a Crops Commanders Conference at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
The PM and the army chief also reviewed the situation in Afghanistan and border management issues.
The army launched operation Zarb-e-Azb in June 2014 in a bid to wipe out militant bases in the North Waziristan Agency. The army intensified its offensive after last year’s Peshawar school attack which killed 151.
