Punjab to offer 10,000 green tractors to young farmers

BAHAWALPUR - Punjab Agriculture Secretary Muhammad Mushtaq said that the Punjab government will provide 20,000 green tractors in two years to young agriculturists on subsidised prices. Addressing a meeting, he said that Rs4 billion had been allocated for Green Tractors project and Rs200,000 would be given as subsidy on each tractor of which 10,000 tractors would be distributed till December 31 through balloting.The Punjab government has been spending Rs3.60 billion on the installation of drip irrigation system for small farmers having land up to 15 acres to achieve better productivity, he revealed.The provincial secretary argued that 350 Land Laser Leveller would be given throughout the province and a subsidy of Rs2,25,000 would be offered on each Laser Leveller.  On the occasion, Agriculture Department Director General Dr Muhammad Anjum Ali told the participants that the tractors would be given at subsidy price to the farmers and agriculturist who have 2.5 acres to 25 acres of land. He argued that according to the Punjab Commission Formula, young agriculturists from Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Multan and Sahiwal divisions would be given 4,600 green tractors and the quota for South Punjab had been increased by 15 percent.Water Management DG Ch Muhammad Ashraf informed the meeting that the water shortage would be resolved through drip irrigation system. The system will be installed in Bahawalpur district for 600 acres, Rajanpur for 250 acres, Rahim Yar Khan for 500 acres, Bahawalnagar 700 acres, Dera Ghazi Khan 450 acres, Muzafargarh 600 acres and Layyah on 850 acres of land.Similarly, the system would be installed in Multan district on 350 acres, Pakpattan 450 acres, Okara 400 acres and on 500 acres of land each in Khanewal, Vehari, Lodhran and in Sahiwal districts.Moreover, Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Muhammad Khan Khichi and DCO Dr Naeem Rauf Asim Iqbal were also present on the occasion.
