PESHAWAR - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has started the second phase of school enrolment campaign across the province, its minister said yesterday.
Last year 0.7 million children were enrolled in government schools while this year target of 0.8 million is fixed for the purpose will be achieved in all respect, Minister for Information and higher education Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani.
PTI government has significantly worked in education sector and first time Rs 102 billion allocated for education sector, which is 38 percent of total budget, he said.
Around 15000 teachers were appointed through NTS across the province while Rs 10 billion have been allocated for the provision of basic facilities in schools last year, he said.
The government has converted up to class-III into English medium this year and every year this process will extend to other classes, he added.
The minister informed that 2.1 million chairs were required in government schools for students while government has allocated Rs 3 billion for purchasing chairs for schools this year.
The Minister Mushtaq Ghani formally inaugurated the second enrolment campaign and enrolled children in schools.
On this occasion KP Elementary and Secondary Education Additional Secretary Qaiser Alam said that September 8 observed International literacy Day throughout the world but at provincial level government link this event with enrolment campaign.
He highlighted the affairs of education department and said that first they focus on quality of education and provide all basic missing facilities in schools and fulfil shortage of teachers.
Additional Secretary informed that Rs 800 million were allocated for teachers training last year owing which 23000 teachers got trained and this year also allocated Rs 800 million for teachers training and they will achieve same target.
He said that this time school principals and headmistress will train on leadership management and boost-up their capacity. He said that monthly Rs 200 stipend has been given to girl’s students from class 6th to 10th now this amount will be raised up to Rs 1000 in future.
On this occasion, Peshawar District Nazim Muhammad Asim Khan, KP Director Elementary and Secondary Education Rafiqu Khattak, KP education department employees, children of various schools and members of civil societies were present.
