ECP urged to register eunuchs’ votes

PESHAWAR - Appreciating Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly for passage of a resolution regarding right to franchise for transgender community, civil society and transgender welfare organisations urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take interest in the registration process of eunuchs.

They also urged provincial lawmakers to legislate laws to guarantee fundamental rights to transgender community.

While addressing a press conference on Friday, Amna Sardar, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) women member of the provincial assembly, said only passing a resolution would not be enough and the provincial legislators must take tangible steps for enacting laws to protect the basic rights of eunuchs in the province.

Flanked by Farzana, president of the TransAction Alliance, Nasim, member of the special committee on the rights of the transgender, the PML-N lawmaker said KP assembly became the first house to discuss the constitutional right of transgender individuals to exercise their right of vote and ultimately passed a resolution aimed at protecting this fundamental political right of transgender individuals.
