Political parties voice unity to overcome crisis

QUETTA - If political parties do not show seriousness to resolve the issues inflicted upon the country, there will be a huge destruction in Balochistan and other parts of the country.
This reservation was expressed by leaders of different political parties at a seminar organised by Political Parties Coordination Committee at the Quetta Press Club on Saturday.
Addressing the seminar, Balochistan National Party (Mengal) acting President Dr Jahanzaib Jamaldini said the situation was getting more complicated in the country.
He said that under the pretext of governor’s rule, targeted operations were being carried out against political parties and their workers in Balochistan. “No society can develop in a state of war,” he remarked, adding that by a well- knitted plan sectarianism was being mushroomed in the province.
The BNP-Mengal leader said that killing of innocent people were continued unabated in Balochistan, Karachi and KPK. He said that Baloch would never allow Iran, Saudi Arabia or any other country to interfere in Afghanistan.
He said that they strongly condemned the murder of Pashtoons or people of any ethnicity, stressing the need of joint effort to avert destruction.
Hazara Democratic Party President Abdul Khaliq Hazara recalled that there was a time when people of different communities used to participate in each other’s religious and cultural events.
He said that Baloch were unaware why Hazaras were being killed. “There were some terrorists groups which were supported by the former government and the same groups were also targeting Sunni scholars to defame Hazaras,” he added. He said that it was the responsibility of all political parties to play a role in overcoming sectarian killings in Quetta before it would be too late.
The HDP president said that sectarianism was giving a bad name to Islam, adding that Baloch and Pashtoon nationalism was being manipulated by religious extremism.
Jamat-i-Islami leader Abdul Matin Akhundzada said that political parties should get united to ensure transparent elections. “If political forces do not show seriousness and maturity at this critical juncture, there might be trouble, particularly in Balochistan, Karachi and KPK.
He said that those involved in corruption were identified but no action was taken against them despite the imposition of governor’s rule in Balochistan. Other speakers, including Rashid Khan Nasir of Awami National Party, Naseebullah Bazai of PML-N, Shafqat Langov of National Party, said that military operation in Balochistan, terrorism in KPK, corruption, lawlessness, targeted killings, extra judicial killings complicated the situation across the country.
They said that all regions should be empowered for using their resources, demanding an end to drone attacks in Pakistani territory.
They said that after handing over the Gwadar Port to China, the government had made this region a battle field for international powers.
They demanded that Islamabad should change its attitude towards Balochistan and stop the atrocities allegedly committed by the government functionaries.
