Funds shortage adds to patients’ miseries

BAHAWALPUR - Punjab government was spending huge funds on newly constructed District Headquarters Hospital while the already functioning Bahawal Victoria Hospital was being neglected and lives of thousands of patients were at stake due to shortage of funds.
Due to non-functional ventilators in Bahawal Victoria Hospital, more than two thousand lives are at stake. The ventilators of ICU, Emergency and Neurosurgery wards have been out of order for a long time and could not be replaced due to lack of funds.
The Newly constructed ICU ward in BVH is not being made functional and the old ICU lacks functional ventilators resulting in loss of lives.
Government of Punjab is not paying any attention towards the provision or repairing of these ventilators Machine due to which daily deaths have become usual.
Four ventilators installed in Emergency Ward of order, all six ventilators of Neurosurgery ward are out of order while 30 ventilators are yet to be installed in ICU ward.
No attention is being given for the repairing of these machines neither by Hospital Administration nor by the Punjab government.
Patients of Asthma told TheNation that CM Punjab was spending millions of rupees on the hospital which is not even functional while functional hospital was being neglected. Medical Superintendent Bahawal Victoria Hospital Dr Irshad said that Intensive Care Unit of the hospital was under construction and ventilators were available but could not be utilised. He said another reason for not utilising these ventilators was the shortage of staf and after the construction of ICU all available ventilators will be installed and more patients will benefit.
LOW GAS PRESSURE: MPA Malik Fayyaz Ahmad Awan has assured the local citizens that their longstanding demand to increase the sui gas pressure would be fulfilled within next week.
He said that main pipeline of 4-inch would be replaced by a 6-inch pipeline at a cost of Rs0.6 million adding that the project would be completed within a week and that would provide relief to the local citizens.
BIKE SNATCHED: Two armed men deprived a villager of his motorcycle near Thatha Gahra on Pindi Bhattian Road here the other day.
Muhammad Riaz was on way to Hafizabad when reached near Thata Gehra, two armed bandits intercepted him and snatched away his bike.
Meanwhile, three armed robbers intruded into the house of Sabir in Shori Manika Village and snatched away Rs29000, five cellphones, one licensed rifle and other valuables worth thousands of rupees.
