Voters’ thumb impression verification ordered

The Election Tribunal Multan has appointed a commission headed by District and Session Judge (r) Shabbir Chattha to conduct verification of voters’ thumb impressions in the constituency NA-154.
It also asked the commission to submit a report within 10 days. The commission will start working from July 14 and submit a report on July 25 before the Multan Election Tribunal. The Election Tribunal appointed the commission on an election petition filed by losing MNA candidate from NA-154 Lodhran Jahangir Khan Tareen for thumb impression verification.
Earlier, winning candidate Siddiq Khan Baloch had got stay order against thumb verification process but the petitioner Jahangir Khan Tareen moved the apex court which vacated the stay and the Multan Election Tribunal resumed proceedings on Wednesday. The National Database Registration Authority requested the Election Tribunal to constitute a commission to conduct thumb verification in view of tempering allegations. Therefore, the tribunal headed by Justice Rana Zahid Mehmood ordered the constitution of a commission.

“Azmat-e-Quran Conference” was organised by Pakistan Patriot Forum at Bosan Town Hall. Addressing the conference, the PPF Chairman Hamza Shahid, Faisal, Dr Imtiaz Baloch and others pointed out that the young generation have lost its way because of invasion of western culture. They stressed a need for promoting religion in the society for preventing young generation from the effects of Western culture. They said that participation in religious activities was a must for gaining success in the world and the world thereafter. Later on, a Husn-e-Qirat contest was also held in which over 50 students from different educational institutions participated in it.
JI WANTS DR AAFIA BACK HOME: Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab Ameer Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar has demanded that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should adopt serious and practical measures for the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui from American detention.
He said that the prime minister had promised with Dr Aafia’s family after coming to power that he would make efforts for her release and the government would make diplomatic efforts but nothing was done so far. He stressed the government to exert pressure on the US to release Dr Aafia. “If the killers of Pakistanis like Raymond Davis can be released and Pakistanis can be extradited to the US on the US government’s demand, why can’t we bring Dr. Aafia back?” he raised a question. He urged upon the nation to keep Dr. Aafia in its prayers during holy month of Ramadan.
