ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court has converted the letter of Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf for appointment of a commission, to be headed by Dr Shoaib Suddle to probe the Rental Power Projects’ case, into a civil miscellaneous application (CMA) and will start hearing on it tomorrow (Monday).
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has registered the letter as civil miscellaneous application and will hear it on March 11. A notice was also issued to Raja Pervaiz Ashraf to appear in person on the date of hearing or depute a Supreme Court advocate.
The prime minister wrote a letter to the Supreme Court on Friday, seeking constitution of an independent commission to investigate the RPPs’ case. The premier consulted his legal aides, including Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naek, who supported the premier’s initiative.
Political observers saw the move as an attempt to repair the fast-deteriorating political image of the PM, which he also mentioned in his letter, stating that a malicious defamatory campaign against him and his family had been launched that the investigation into the RPPs’ case was being influenced by the government. He made it clear he had always extended full cooperation in the investigation of the case and had in no way tried to influence or delay the investigation.
