LAKKI MARWAT - To control happening of road accidents on the busiest Indus Highway, several traffic wardens have been posted at Serai Gambila to implement relevant laws in letter and spirit,” said an official on Sunday.
He said that the posting of traffic police cops had been made under a new traffic plan approved by DPO Ismail Kharak to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the highway and other roads passing through the urban localities of Lakki Marwat and Naurang towns.
“There were numerous complaints about drivers of public and goods transports regarding use of wrong side of Indus Highway in between
Darra Pezu and Gandi Chowk,” he told. He said that implementation on new traffic plan would address such complaints and ease traffic flow on roads.
He further said that traffic cops posted at Lakki and Naurang had been directed to wear complete uniform with white colour sleeves and control traffic mess in the urban localities at all costs. “The elimination of encroachments on both sides of grand trunk road in Naurang and Lakki will ease traffic and facilitate general public and transporters,” he maintained.
Officials said that traffic wardens issued fine tickets to violators and deposited over Rs2,55,000 in government exchequer last month while Rs70,000 had been deposited in the kitty so far during the current month.
Meanwhile, local police claimed to have arrested over a dozen drug traffickers and seized huge quantity of narcotics from them during a special campaign.
“During the campaign supervised by DPO Ismail Kharak, the law enforcers eliminated narcotics dens in several localities and arrested alleged drug pushers,” said official. He told that police recovered 16kg hashish and 270-gram heroin from the arrested narcotics sellers and registered cases against them under relevant section of law in the concerned police station.
