KARACHI/QUETTA - The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested a co-accused for facilitating Balochistan’s finance secretary Mushtaq Raisani from a posh locality here yesterday.
However, the area, from where the accused was arrested, was not disclosed. The accused was identified as Sohail Majeed Shah. He was shifted to NAB’s Karachi office for further investigations.
A NAB spokesperson in Karachi said Shah was a co-accused in Quetta currency recovery case and he was arrested for facilitating Mushtaq Raisani. He added that he was arrested after leads given by Raisani.
The development comes just three days after NAB Balochistan arrested the province’s financial secretary over corruption charges and subsequently recovered Rs730 million, jewellery worth nearly Rs40 million and a cache of foreign currencies from his residence.
Earlier in the day, the NAB arrested Balochistan Public Service Commission’s former chairman Ashraf Magsi over allegations of misuse of power during his tenure.
Meanwhile, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday arrested former chairman of the Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC) Ashraf Magsi on corruption charges.
According to NAB sources, Ashraf Magsi is accused of embezzling funds worth millions of rupees and recruiting officers above grade 17 in violation of merit.
Earlier in November 2014, Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai had removed Magsi from the post of chairman Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC) over charges of irregularities and corruption.
A formal letter of termination was issued to the chairman by the governor after Balochistan High Court Judge Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan concluded the inquiry.
Two of Magsi’s daughters, who were working in grade 17 in the education department, were also sacked after their degrees were found fake by the NAB.
Magsi’s arrest comes few days after the NAB officials detained Mushtaq Raisani from his office at civil secretariat and recovered cash amounting to Rs730 million and jewellery worth nearly Rs40 million from his residence.
NAB officials confirmed the cash was found from a locker and 14 bags stuffed with local and foreign currencies.
