MUZAFFARGARH-A woman died allegedly after committing self-immolation and another was set ablaze in a separate incident occurred in different areas of Muzaffargarh district here on Monday.
The police informed that a woman identified as Shaheen Bibi allegedly committed self-immolation in protest against the second marriage of her husband. She sustained critical burns and succumbed to her burns in Nishtar Hospital Multan late the other night.
Nishtar Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Ashiq Malik informed that Shaheen Bibi had sustained 80 percent burns and was brought to Multan in critical condition. “We made hectic efforts to save her life but she could not survive,” he said.
However, parents of the deceased woman alleged that their daughter had been burnt to death by her husband Kareem Bakhsh when she protested against his second marriage.
Muzaffargarh DPO Awais Ahmed Malik said that the Jatoi Police have launched investigation into the incident from both aspects. He said that the police have registered a murder case on the report of Shaheen’s sister.
In another incident, Muhammad Umar allegedly set his wife Saima Bibi ablaze for demanding pocket money here in Chowk Sarwar Shaheed area, some 60-km north-west of Muzaffargarh city.
Doctor said that the woman has received 35 percent burns on her body. “We are hopeful that she would survive,” they said. The police have registered a case against Umar on the complaint of Aamer Nadeem, brother of Saima Bibi under Anti-Terrorism Act .However no arrest could be made till filing of this report.
