Dozens of lady health workers staged a sit-in against non-payment of salaries for the last four months outside Director Health office on Monday.
They also claimed that they are deprived of allowances for special duties like dengue eradication and polio vaccination drives.
The demo was led by Rukhsana Anwar. They shouted slogans against the government and health officials, saying they are not being made permanent despite the lapse of several years in employment with the Punjab Health Department. They said they are being deprived of their salaries and allowances for four months now. When heard the loud slogans of lady health workers, the other people also joined them. Taking notice of the demonstration, District Coordination Officer Zahid Saleem Gondal sought report from the Health authorities and also directed to immediately resolve the problems of lady workers.
ANTI-POLIO DRIVE BEGINS: Over 1930 vaccination teams launched three-day polio vaccination drive here on Monday to administer polio drops to over four lac children below the age of five years in Multan district. The campaign was kicked off by the DCO Zahid Saleem Gondal, who stressed upon the health staff to make all out efforts to make the drive successful. He directed the polio vaccinators to locate the children coming from other cities and vaccinate them on priority basis. He said that out of 1930 teams, over 1400 were mobile ones which would go door to door to vaccinate the children. He declared that the teams would also be deployed at all railway and bus stations, airport, hospitals and dispensaries to administer polio drops to the children. He declared that the drive would continue till November 14.
