Musharraf exempted from appearance

Islamabad - An anti-terrorism court (ATC) here on Friday accepted former military ruler Pervez Musharraf’s application wherein he was seeking exemption from appearing before the court in judges’ detention case.
ATC Judge Sohail Ikram conducted the hearing of the application and granted exemption to Musharraf for one day by rejecting public prosecutor’s request of not to accept the same.
During the hearing, Advocate Ilyas Siddiqui, the counsel for the former president, submitted an application and sought exemption for his client from appearing before the court on medical grounds. Referring the medical report, the counsel argued that due to severe pain in backbone of Musharraf, doctors had advised him for complete bed rest. Therefore, he added that his client could not appear before the court and his application seeking exemption may be accepted.
However, Public Prosecutor Aamir Nadeem Tabish raised the objections over it and stated that every time a new medical report is submitted before the court and the accused had made his habit of producing medical report for seeking exemption.
Later, the ATC judge granted exemption to Musharraf and deferred the hearing till April 24 for further proceedings in this matter. Previously, the ATC judge had expressed his anger for not providing the medical report of Musharraf and directed his counsel to submit the medical report on the next hearing otherwise, the court would take action as per law against the accused. In this connection, Musharraf’s counsel had assured the court that he would submit complete record of illness of his client on the next hearing.
