Sherpao pins peace hopes in now governor

PESHAWAR - Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Sunday hailed the appointment of Engineer Shaukatullah Khan as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor, hoping that he would work to remove the sense of deprivation among the tribal people.
In a statement, he said that being a tribesman the newly appointed governor would make efforts to help bring normalcy to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).
Aftab Sherpao expressed the optimism that Engineer Shaukatullah would play a pivotal role in solving the problems being faced by the tribesmen.
“In the past no attention was paid to address the grievances of the tribal people,” he maintained.
He said that the displaced tribal people were living under squalid conditions at the IDP camps and no effort had been made to give them relief. He maintained that being a clansman the new governor was aware of the hardships and difficulties of his fellow tribesmen and would come up to their expectations.
“The tribal people would expect him to help provide relief to the displaced persons, restore peace in the troubled areas and repatriate them,” the QWP leader said, adding that practical steps were required to end the despondency among the tribal people.
Aftab Sherpao called for implementing the Fata reforms in letter and spirit as it was the only way to bring the tribal population into the mainstream of life.
