ISLAMABAD  - Minister for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar said on Tuesday that there was no proposal under consideration to link transfer of civil nuclear technology with the resumption of NATO supply.
Talking to reporters after briefing the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) meeting held here at the Parliament House, she said that Pakistan and the United States need each other and their relations were not limited to economic ties. The Foreign Minister said that the PCNS has adopted most of the recommendations of the Envoys Conference recently held in the federal capital.
“The relations with the US and the NATO will be reviewed in accordance with the mandate given by the Committee,” she added.
Earlier, the meeting of the PCNS was held under the chairmanship of Senator Mian Raza Rabbani here. The minister for foreign affairs and the secretary defence briefed the members of the committee.
The meeting was also attended by senators Ishaq Dar, Prof Khurshid Ahmed, Afrasiyab Khattak, Abdul Rahim Mandokhel and Members of the National Assembly (MNAs), Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Munir Khan Orakzai, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, Syed Haider Abbas Rizvi and Nadeem Afzal Chan.
Briefing the journalists after the meeting, Raza Rabbani said the foreign minister and the secretary defence attended today’s meeting and briefed the committee about their institutional point of view and also presented proposals.
After their briefing, the members of the committee discussed these proposals in detail and finalised their recommendations. He said the committee secretariat would complete its working and put up a final draft before it in the meeting to be held on Wednesday.
The Chairman hoped that all the recommendations would be completed in the Wednesday’s meeting. Responding to a question, he said that the committee tried to review the overall terms of engagements and added that the committee would only give a ‘broad policy outline’.
He said the final recommendations of the committee would be sent to Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to table them in the joint session of the Parliament.
