ISLAMABAD - Attorney General of Pakistan Munir A Malik tendered resignation from his office on Friday.
The AG sent his resignation to President Mamnoon Hussain. He was appointed as the AG in June last year. Few days back, Munir A Malik, who has always been regarded as a bridge between the judiciary and the federal government, met PM Nawaz Sharif to inform him about his decision.
Munir A Malik is a renowned SC lawyer and former SCBA president. He had spearheaded lawyers' movement for independence of the judiciary when Iftikhar Ch was deposed as chief justice of Pakistan by former miltary ruler Pervez Musharraf.

The government was considering two or three names to fill the top legal slot.
The name of Advocate Akram Sheikh, who is leading a prosecution team to try Musharraf for treason charges, is also under consideration.
